Culture Map

Your child is invited to come on a journey with us. Sign your child up for Culture Map.

Your child will:
-Learn about five different regions in the world
-Know the geographic locations of five different countries and their major cities
-Broaden their perspective of cultures and people
-Find common ground amongst different cultures

In this course we will read five books from five different areas of the world.

Each class will consist of deep discussion about different aspects of the book and how it relates to the society, culture, and life of each one of us.

The students will be expected to participate in the discussion and to think deeply and objectively, and to be respectful and thoughtful of others so that our classroom can be a safe environment where we can all express our thoughts and share our ideas. Students will also be required to add to the classroom discussion board at least once each week.

The objective of this course is to find common ground between many different cultures and geographical locations and to understand, make connections, and broaden perspectives with relation to cultures and peoples.  The instructor has lived in all of these regions and brings an understanding and love gained from not just transient travel, but from years of life experience.

About Emily: The arts are an integral part of my life. In my early college years, I majored in music education and liberal arts with a focus on clarinet performance. After college, I met and married the love of my life and we’ve been happily married for 18 years. We’ve lived in Utah, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Yaounde, Cameroon; Helsinki, Finland; Amman, Jordan; Colombo, Sri Lanka; and we currently reside in La Paz, Bolivia. We have four children whom I’ve homeschooled for the past 10 years as we’ve trotted about the globe. During those homeschooling years I’ve taught music lessons and Spanish, headed co-ops, lead story times and literature groups, and facilitated learning of all kinds. Teaching, learning, and the arts are my passion. I am currently finishing my Bachelor’s Degree in Marriage & Family science with an emphasis in Human Services and Family Counseling, with plans to begin my Master’s studies in clinical and arts therapy.
